King’s College Announces Renaming of King’s on the Square: the Richard Abbas Alley Center for Health Sciences

Wilkes-Barre, PA – King’s College is delighted to announce that the King’s on the Square property located on Public Square in Downtown Wilkes-Barre is to be named after Richard Abbas Alley, M.D., in recognition of his generous lead donation to the College of $1,000,000. The building will be named the Richard Abbas Alley Center for Health Sciences and will be rededicated at a ceremony on December 17, 2019.

Dr. Alley, a respected physician and philanthropist, has been a generous benefactor to King’s College for many years and has served on its Board of Directors since 2006. Having dedicated his life to the medical care of others, Dr. Alley aptly lends his name to a facility that houses many of King’s Health Sciences programs including Physician Assistant, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, and Nursing, as well as the Health and Wellness at King’s Program (HAWK), which provides at no cost to the public comprehensive health, cardiovascular, muscular, and orthopedic screenings.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to be associated with King’s, and I know that my parents would feel the same way. I am happy to support the school and its students in the form of this wonderful center for learning focused on health sciences,” explained Dr. Alley.

King’s College President, Rev. John Ryan, C.S.C., Ph.D., remarked, ”The King’s community is grateful for Dr. Alley’s years of service to King’s, to the Wyoming Valley, and to people in need of medical care near and far.  His generosity is extraordinary, and it is an honor to recognize him, his service, and his family name at the home of King’s exceptional health sciences programs.”

In addition to his many years of practicing medicine in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Dr. Alley has traveled the world using his medical expertise to heal people in countries like Uganda, Philippines, Guyana, Nigeria, India, Brazil, and Mexico. Dr. Alley will also donate a collection of artworks amassed during his medical missions to these countries that will be displayed in the Center for students, faculty, and visitors to the building to appreciate for years to come.

Dr. Alley has led a life of service, volunteering with and serving on countless boards of directors for organizations including St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen, Northeastern Pennsylvania Boy Scouts of America, Rotary Club, Interfaith Council of Wyoming Valley, Salvation Army of Northeastern Pennsylvania, St. Joseph Center, Wilkes-Barre YMCA, and many more.
